Cameron POV:
When Chase came with the spare keys I said snatching
the keys from his hand "I think you should give her
some time. Let me go first and see".
He nodded and left.
I went inside the room and saw Hailey sitting on the
floor while her head resting on the wall near the door. I
kneel down to wake her up.
But stopped when my eyes landed on her face, her cute
chubby cheeks have red hand prints and looks swollen.
Her lower lip was split open and small amount of blood
was still oozing out from it. I felt a sudden anger at my
mother for hitting Hailey especially in this condition.
I shook her shoulder lightly to wake her up. Suddenly
she opened her eyes looking around scared then her
eyes landed on me.
The tears filled her eyes, and she flung her arms around
my neck and hugged me tightly while mumbling "Cam I
don't know anything? Why.....hiccup me?".
I rubbed her back to provide her some comfort and
replied "Hailey c'mon I'm here no one is going to hurt
you. Calm down."
After few minutes of sobbing and mumbling incoherent
things she finally untangled her arms from around my
neck.
Getting up from the floor I pulled her up and said
"Hailey, you need to wash your face".
She nodded and went inside the washroom.
I thought of going to the kitchen to fetch some ice for
her swollen cheek.
When I opened the door of her bedroom to leave I saw
Chase leaning on the wall.
I asked him "What are you doing here?".
He glared at me and said "I just want to know how's
she? She haven't eaten a breakfast this morning".
The concerned he was showing angered me and made
me ask "Oh so now you're worried. Where were you
when mom slapped her? She has swollen cheek and
split lips. And that's because you're a loser who cannot
stand up against his mother for his wife."
Guilt appeared on his face at my statement, and he left
without saying anything.
I went to the kitchen, took the bowl and filled it with
Hailey's favorite charm cereal and milk. Then made the
cup of hot chocolate for her.
Lastly, I took out some frozen peas from fridge and
arranged all the things on the tray and went to her
room.
When I entered in the room I found her curled up on the
bed.
I said lightly "Hailey c'mon sit up, you need to eat. I
have your favorite charms and hot chocolate here."
She sat up leaning her head on the headboard of the
bed, she looked so broken and I wanted to beat my
brother to pulp for making her like this.
I put the pack of frozen peas on her cheek, and she
hissed at the coldness of ice. I laughed at her cute face,
and she gave the murderous glare.
I just made the innocent face and saw a small twitch on
of her lips. When I was satisfied that swelling was
reduced I pulled off the bag of frozen peas from her
cheek.
She took the bowl from my hand and started eating. But
her face stayed emotionless. I was upset at the sight of
her sorrowful face so just to lighten up her mood I
started making jokes, and she actually laughed at few of
my stupid senseless jokes.
When she was finish eating and drinking hot chocolate.
I applied some ointment on her lips and told her to
sleep. She again curled up on the bed under the
mountain of blanket.
I want to help Hailey, I want to see the smiling girl who
reminds me of Mia, my dead the best friend. I shouldn't
have thought about her right now or I'll be lost.
I closed the door of her bedroom and went to my room.
I start thinking What should I do to make her mood
better?.
Then I literally felt a bulb lit up on my head as the best
idea to cheer her up came to my mind.
I called Allison my best sister and told her about
whatever happened today. Then I told her how I want to
do something to cheer her up.
Allison agreed to come for a visit in the evening.
Then I opened my closet and searched for the box.
When I found it I opened it and took out all the money
that I've been saving from forever to get my favorite
sports bike.
I wanted to buy it before I'll come home permanently
from hostel but it can wait.
Now I need the money to proceed my plan to make
Hailey happy. So I called my friend Mike and asked him
to pick me up.
When I came back from shopping I found Allison sitting
with mom on the couch and said "Hi" to both of them.
"Allison come with me?". I pulled her up from the couch
and dragged her upstairs in the Hailey's room.
Hailey was still curled up laying on the bed and
probably still crying.
I switched on all the lights and shouted happily "Hailey
see Allison is here to meet you. And we have something
for you".
She set up on the bed rubbed her eyes to wipe the tears
and looked at me with smile. Then she said "Hey
Allison".
Allison said "Hey. How are you feeling?".
Hailey mumbled "fine".
But I knew she isn't fine.
I jumped on her bed with the gifts and said "C'mon
open them hurry". She moved lazily, sluggishly and open
the first bag which contains the box of every kind of
chocolate she like and a very cute white fluffy teddy
bear holding a heart that have written "smile" on it in
bold letters.
She giggled and hugged the bear tightly and said
"Thank you, Cam".
But I nudge her to open the other bag she rolled her
eyes at my eagerness but open it. And boy she wasn't
just giggling anymore no she was squealing jumping
with happiness and believe me it's worth all the money.
She looked at me with the unbelievable face and asked
"You got me laptop. A laptop really?"
Allison and I both glanced at each other and smiled at
Hailey's behavior over receiving a laptop. I mean to me
and other people in this house it's no big deal. Everyone
has their own laptop, mobile and other gadgets to use
except her. She told me that she never had a cell phone
when I asked her for her number.
I was literally shocked after hearing her; I mean c'mon
we're living in a twenty-first century everyone has their
own laptop and cell phones.
So today I thought why not give her a laptop she can
find anything or everything through it. It'll be helpful for
her.m and entertain her when she'll miss me and need
a friend.
She thanked me again and again it's like she forgot
about what happened today which is good.
I asked her if she wanted to learn some new function of
this laptop. She eagerly nodded her head and I showed
her some new apps and functions.
After sometime I said my farewell "Hailey now I need to
go and pack my bag because I'm leaving tonight. Take
care".
She nodded her head and said "I'm going to miss you
Cam please come soon". I hugged her and left her with
Allison in the room.
ALLISON POV:
When Cameron left us in the awkward silence.
Really looked at Hailey and asked her "Are you really
fine?".
She nodded her head with the sad face.
I continued "I heard you're expecting. Please don't mind
Hailey but It's really difficult to understand how you
guys become this close to each? I mean when? How?.
Did Chase confessed his undying love or its just
attraction between you guys that lead both of here? And
Why you guys didn't use protection? Why didn't you
take the pills? These questions are jumbling in my mind
please tell me".
She looked hurt, confused and mostly broken; many
emotions were playing on her face.
She moved closer to like she's going to tell me some
secret and said "Allison you have been like an elder
sister to me the moment I meet you. Do you trust me
when I say that I don't know anything."
I looked at her with confusion and asked "What do you
mean? Please elaborate."
Her face suddenly became red with blush, and she
looked so embarrass while saying this "I ... I don't
know how to say this but I don't know how i become
pregnant. I don't know anything".
I looked at Hailey like I'm seeing a ghost. "Hailey, don't
tell me you don't know what is s*x? What love making
means? What goes between husband and wife in the
bedroom after marriage?".
She shook her head while staring down with tears in her
eyes "I know few things, but they never made sense".
"Have you been living under the rock all your life girl?
Why didn't your mother tell you and give you a talk on
the safe s*x?". I asked in a high tone scaring her.*
Hailey looked so flustered and tears dropped from her
eyes, instantly making me regret my tone with her.
She gave me a glance and lightly said "My mother and I
wasn't that close to each other and Emily was always
too busy to spare me time. I had no friends, and I was
dumb in the class so maybe that's the reason I'm so
clueless about simple things. The knowledge I received
was only from books. So to say that I have been living
under the rock is not wrong at all".
I didn't know what to say after hearing her. I was
beyond frustrated and angry at no one particular but
everyone.
We're living in a twenty-first century and still innocent
people like Hailey exist.
I asked her "Hailey, so I'm assuming you never had a
boyfriend".
At my question she flushed looking so cute but her
small act confirmed my suspicious.
I realized that she wasn't lying to me about anything.
She said "I never had a boyfriend or any involvement
with boys.uh". She looked so embarrass while saying.
When it's nothing to embarrass because she's still so
young and have her whole life to experience everything.
I just didn't know how to explain everything to her. I
would either cry with her here while explaining her this.
I looked at Hailey and said "You have a laptop now and
no one is stopping you from learning. Connect the
internet and find the question of every answer. And if
you ever need me please don't hesitate to call. And take
care of yourself Hailey and the little one growing inside
you. You need to be strong and think wisely from now
on".
I gave her hand a squeeze lastly and walked out of her
room.
I saw Chase sitting on the bench in the backyard and
went to him to talk about all the's created.
Because I have so many questions which only he could
answer. I quietly sat beside him on the bench.
When he saw me, he sighed.
I started "Hey Chase. I....uh was with Hailey in her
room, and we had a talk about all this situation."
He looked at me shockingly with his eyes wide open,
and he kept his mouth shut, so I continued "Chase I
know it's your personal life but I don't get it that when
you get attracted to Hailey to get involve in something
like this. I mean we saw how you treated her all these
months".
The emotions of guilt and regret appeared on Chase
face at my questions.
He gave me a glance and said "Promise me Allison
you'll not tell a soul what I'm going to share with you."
I nodded my head and promised him that whatever he
was going to tell me will stay between us, forever.
He was satisfied after hearing that and said "You
remember Hailey and I went to this party when mom
and dad left for Chicago with Kate."
I nodded my head, and he continued "Few boys spiked
the drinks and food with drugs. I thought I was drunk
and she was too. We had no control our bodies and
something happened between us. After what we did I
...uh just avoided her and never talked about it. I was
guilty and embarrass to talk to her".
I gasped hearing him say that they were drugged and
whatever happened between them was because of
drugs.
But if Chase remember everything why doesn't she
remember anything?
"Oh God Chase! Hailey doesn't remember anything". I
yelled in shock.
"What do you mean she doesn't remember anything?".
He asked me.
I shook my head and said "She doesn't remember
anything about that night. She has no idea what
happened between you and him".
"It means she was drugged with something that leaves
no traces of memory about the last night when you
wake up in the morning". Chase said in disbelief.
"It means someone wanted her to forget everything in
the morning". I said making Chase curse.
"Yes, Al. I think someone was planning to hurt her". He
mumbled and pulled his hair in anger.
I pitied my brother at that moment. He looked so lost
and heartbroken.
